Teamedup
Hypothecated loans are used in the UK too and is sort of a way of guaranteeing a loan. Mortgages are often hypothecated in France, in fact, in the past were the norm, practically impossible to get a mortgage without one. The loan is registered, the notaire does this and if one swops banks, then the hypoteque is juggled with in some way, and we had to pay more once, when we did this. The hypotheque is taken off sometime after the loan is finished. What it means is that we pay more when we are signing up for everything, and for me it felt like yet another tax. BJSLIV
Its another one of those little charges that gradually accumulate. Fortunately its not too onerous, less than 2% of the value borrowed. For example €1700 on a loan of €100000,€3000 on a loan of €200000.An Online calculator.http://www.anil.org/guide/calculs/hypotheque/emprunt.htm An explanation of whats its all about.http://vosdroits.service-public.fr/particuliers/F786.html

Teamedup
LOL even at the time I felt like I was in an exclusive club. A club is not a club with one member though is it.
