NormanH
The results of the Bac came out on Friday, and happily the two students I have been coaching in English both passed one with a mention assez bienShe has just sent me the paper she took.http://www.scribd.com/doc/97927503/22062012-BTN-LV1-AnglaisIt seems very imbalanced to me in the text is quite hard to get hold of yet the questions are very simple.I also have doubts about the Oral examination, since they are given a picture ans asked to comment. It seems to me that the first words that come into the mind when you see a picture are in the mother tongue, and afterwards you worry if you know those words in the foreign language.A text in the foreign language would have the advantage of presenting the candidate with appropiate vocabulary from the start. woolybanana
Norman, the use of pictures has been around for a long, long time, notably with Cambridge exams. A good student can really show off their language describing the image and taking part in discussion with the examiner(s).The text is tough with some fairly obscure vocabulary, but at least it is not 19 century literature. Interesting.
Pommier
Does the curriculum differentiate between UK English and American English? I find words such as 'gotten' a bit grating.
NormanH
No Pommier. In fact the English curriculum in France is heavily twisted towards American texts. So much for the French being in Europe! Imagine if all the French exams in the UK used Québecois texts..
idun
What an idea that would be. The québecois thought that I was french, such is 'their' french!
