joannepaulaede Posted February 25, 2005 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Am really happy as we have just bought a house in village called Naschamps (between surgeres and St jean D'Angely) in Charente Maritime. We have been told our fosse septique is fine and in good condition but stupidly enough we are unsure as to how and when to get it emptied. Also, is it just bleach that you are not supposed to use - where do you find out the finer details about fosse septiques!! Val_2 Posted February 25, 2005 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Ref the emptying, look for Vidange in Pages Jaunes and yes, you can use bleach if bought locally and other chemicals as long as they have the words "sans danger aux fosse septiques" printed on the back of the containers. Put Eparcyl down the toilet at frequent intervals to keep the bacteria healthy as well. Never bring any chemicals from english supermarkets for use in French fosse systems including loo paper. As for emptying, if you live full time at the property,every five years is normal but for holiday only use, about ten yearly intervals and don't forget to clean your degraisseur regularly.
