If you buy a car in a different deptment from where you live, you have to pay to have the number plates changed. Re-registered. You are better off buying a LHD car in the UK as you can pick these up really cheaply, try ebay or Loot or any of the Bargain pages, we just bought a German Golf for a steal, it would have been three times the price here. Yes you have to get the paperwork sorted out but you will still have to get most of it anyway. Our Golf passed its Controle Techniche here with no problems just had to change the headlights, which we picked up from a spares yard.
