Happy Expat
We are RAC members in the UK, although using their services little (thankfully!) it is reassuring should the need arise. Are there similar services in France, if so what has been member's experiences of them? Bob & Jane
Val_2
Check that the RAC deal with a garage/dealer very close to your home here. Friends had trouble and the nearest garage that would deal with their rescue Service (G.Flag) were over 3 hours away, no other garage nearer wanted to be involved with them. Living here and having accidents and breakdowns etc we have always found that the main dealers have an excellent breakdown callout service although it does cost and if you patronise your local garage,he will always help as well. I had to call Citroën out after an accident, they are 12miles away and their lorry arrived within ten minutes - no charge as it was an insurance claim too. zeb
French car insurance usually covers breakdowns so there doesn't appear to be an equivalent of the RAC. We have broken down twice, phoned the number given by the insurance company, waited (and waited) and then have been towed to the nearest approved garage. When we first came over in our old VW bus we were covered by Green Flag and broke down in Le Mans at midday. We had to wait until after two to be towed but then had excellent service from local garage who called out someone who had had an old Type 2!! He fixed the problem and we were on our way by three.regards........helen
