Registering English Vehicle without Purchase Invoice

Hi

We want to register our English car in France but cannot find the purchase invoice, can anyone advise if it is essential to have the invoice or if there is an alternative.

Thanks for any help.

2 things spring to mind:

1) If you bought it from a garage, ask them for a copy

2)Private purchase or no joy with 1) above, fire up Microsoft Word and create your own! After all, it's not like you are ripping someone off or making any gain, its just a piece of paper to satisfy the pen pushers.

Pierres response is just about right. A few years back I was asked for this purchase reciept to register an Escort van here in France. I produced the original receipt from the plumbing business from whom the van was purchased in the UK, which was just a hand written receipt with his company stamp on it. The lady at the prefecture was not interested in it really, she just needed sight of "this essential bit of paper", which could have been easily produced by myself.

It reminds me of how French bureaucracy works;Tens of thousands of fonctionaires with "jobs for life" shuffling pointless bits of paper around in huge government owned buildings

We did not need this piece of paperwork for our old RHD Land Rover.  In fact we were in the Prefecture in Carcassonne for a total of about 10 minutes and most of that was waiting to pay. I handed over the, certificate de conformite from Land Rover France, the french MOT which we had taken that morning, together with the UK registration document and my passport.  I was aksed to complete a couple of forms but I had previously downloaded these from the internet , this seemed to impress the man and he handed me back the french mot certificate and passport and kept all the english documents, told me to go to the cash desk and wait to be called. This we did, the carte grise was printed out by computer, we paid and left.  Quite shocked really as regular readers of this forum will know we are having a hell of a time with our other car.

A tip:  the forms you need to complete can be obtained from your Mairie and they may help you complete this but all the information, although it looks complicated, is in fact listed on the Certificat de Conformite. They can be downloaded from the CERFA website, not sure of the link, try www.cerfa.org or www.cerfa.fr

Our old british registration number is printed on the carte Grise

Hi,

I also have an old land rover (1986) and have been advised that the homologation cert costs 119 euros from LR France.

I'm sure I recall having been told that having the 'new' european style registration cert means that you don't actually require a homologation cert. Can anyone confirm either way?

Cheers.

No, it's the export certificate that isn't necessary with the new-style registration document - though many would argue that it has never been necessary. You still have to tear off the relevant bit and send it to DVLA to tell them that the vehicle is exported though.

Incidentally, I saw somewhere that all UK-registered vehicles must have their registration documents changed to the new style by 1 July.
