Ann33
Hi,Due to take my car for a service. The car needs to have a new "Cam Belt" this year. Does anyone know the word for this in French?Thank YouAnn
Linnorton
Think it's chaine de distribution, if anyone knows different I'd be interested to hear the correct term
Baz
According to the AA vehicle components guide a Cam Belt is Courroie d'arbre à cames. The Chaine de distribution given by Linnnorton is quoted as a Camshaft Chain.Baz
derf
For Cam Belt use "Courroie de distribution" and to change all the associated parts (recommended), guides and tensioners it's a "Kit de distribution". Sometimes you will have to replace the water pump (pompe a eau) at the same time depending on vehicle make.
Miki
Strangely it is a cross between the two, a Courroie de distribution.Well that is what we have had on a few of our cars and that it was what is written on the facture every time.
Motorhead
Yes it's confusing. Overhead cam engins used to mainly have chains controling the cams but now as belt technology gets better they are being replaced by belts which probably explains the language crossover. Motorhead
Never said they were better than chains only that the belts are better than they used to be.
