Richard and Alex
Can you get a controle technique done on a UK registered car? Also, if the car is no longer taxed in the UK does it remain legal to drive full-time in France? We were told that our insurance(bought in the UK with annual european cover) would continue to insure the car provided we arranged the controle technique. The car has been in France for less than 6 months. Thanks

Bobdude
Hi,Yes, you can get a CT done on a UK registered car. In fact, it has to be done before you can re-register the car in France. Regarding the UK insurance/MOT - it is my understanding that for your UK insurance to be valid, the car must be 'road legal' in the UK - i.e. road tax and MOT. You can actually insure your car with French insurers pending re-registration. They will need evidence of no claims from your UK insurers. The French insurers will give you time to effect the re-registration, then just change your registration number on your policy to your French one.
