YCCMB
Legally you can ride a scooter in France from the age of 14 if it's 50cc or lower, but you need to pass a test:http://www.fmoto.com/reglementation.aspgiives you all the details. My 15-year-old was gutted when he found out he couldn't ride my scooter or take the test (his French isn't up to it!).Getting insurance is a bit of a problem. I went to a broker and they told me that they generally won't insure scooters unless you have all your other insurances with them, as scooter insurance makes them a hefty loss. Went to our house insurers (CA) who also said they wouldn't insure me, but, armed with what the other broker told me I simply said "pity, if you can't insure me then I'll have to move all my other insurances to anotehr company" and lo and behold they said OK, but I did need to provide car insurance history etc., and the premiums are still pretty steep! I did have to show my UK licence to the shop where I bought the scooter, too, as I recall. Jane
