oldgit72
Hi,I own a 1982 Citroen 2cv (right hand drive) which like me is currently resident in the UK. If and when I move permanently to France (hopefully within the next 12 months now having sold UK house) would I have any insurmountable problems importing said car back to it's former country of origin? Has anyone imported a car of a similar vintage successfully? Thanks
Cassis
Unless the rules are different for older cars, you'll need to get a CT and proof that VAT has been paid (certificate from the centre d'impots, take your sales receipt) and certificate of conformity before you can get the car registered. There are other threads that explain this in more detail, Sunday Driver is the authority on the subject and has posted this info in this section of the forum. Do a search for something like "importing car".
Sunday Driver
There's a full explanation of the import/registration process in the FAQ at the top of this forum index - it's entitled Importing and Registering your UK car in France. If you go and read it, then you'll find all the information you need to successfully import and register your 2CV in France. In your case, there's just a small variation on the type approval - your car is too old for a certificate of conformity so you'll need to contact Citroen France and ask them for an attestation d'identite. This will provide evidence that your 2CV is type approved for France. They'll probably charge you 150 euros for the pleasure. oldgit72
Thanks for the replies. I'll give it a go although 150 euros is probably more than the 2cv is worth.[:(]
Steph
I have been offered a RHD 2cv which I definitely going to buy as it was my first ever car - I love them! 2cv's are becoming classic cars and it worth way more than 150 euros .. ! Just have a look on ebay.fr to see how much they can go for, or search on google and see the price of restored ones - you will be quite surprised! I reckon that even a RHD registered in France is worth a few bob ... Thanks for the address, I'll need that too!Stephwww.pwb53.com

Polremy
hi there. we imported our 1986 2cv here to france in 2002. actually, we just drove it on english plates for a couple of years but then thought we ought to legalise it. we finally got our new french plates two years ago. it was straightforward but there is a lot of paperwork. we got a certificate of conformity with no problem - our local citroen garage organised it all. i dont remember it being anything like 150 euros. we did have to buy new headlights which was the biggest expense - about 100 euros i seem to remember. we got them from a garage which specialises in restoring 2cvs - it is narbonne, probably nowhere near to you.we also had to change plates on our xsara and that cost much more - both for the headlights and the fee at the prefecture. its a great conversation piece driving a 2cv with the steering wheel on the right!! you'll love it. let me know how you get on.
