Loiseau
I know that the automatic péage slots on the French motorways accept UK credit cards - or at least have accepted my MasterCard. Does anyone know whether they also accept UK *debit* cards?Angela
Sunday Driver
According to the autoroutes.fr website, the following credit cards are accepted: Carte Blue, Visa, Mastercard, Cofinoga plus a number of private cards like Essocard, Euroshell, etc.Debit cards such as Maestro and Magnet which require a system interrogation check are not accepted. David_Janet
My daughter and her chum recently drove down from UK to SW France and back, and, at my suggestion, used their UK plastic to pay at the 'CB' peage booth, to save queueing.I didn't realise, and they didn't find out till they received their bank statements, that their bank had charged them £1.30 for each transaction!! (a total of about an extra £17)Oooops! Be warned....
BJSLIV
That their bank had charged them £1.30 for each transactionYes its usually cheaper to use a credit rather than a debit card, much less chance of a minimum handling charge.

Bob T
The debit card use charge, £1.50 with Halifax, does not apply to all banks. Nationwide do not charge anything.
