Motorway péages: use of UK credit/debit cards

According to the [url=http://www.autoroutes.fr/voyage/pratique_paiement.php?lng=1]autoroutes.fr[/url] website, the following credit cards are accepted:  Carte Blue, Visa, Mastercard, Cofinoga plus a number of private cards like Essocard, Euroshell, etc.

Debit cards such as Maestro and Magnet which require a system interrogation check are not accepted.

My daughter and her chum recently drove down from UK to SW France and back, and, at my suggestion, used their UK plastic to pay at the 'CB' peage booth, to save queueing.

I didn't realise, and they didn't find out till they received their bank statements, that their bank had charged them £1.30 for each transaction!!  (a total of about an extra £17)

Oooops! Be warned....
