Al Fresco
The FAQ thread: Importing and registering your UK car to France, is locked so I have had to add this here. Export Declaration: Followed this advice to the letter and it worked a treat. Quittus Fiscal: Ditto Certificat de conformite: Went to the DRIRE completed the paperwork and was rewarded with a letter, the substance of which was that our car was not on the database. It is a Citroen Xsara. Slightly puzzling as you may imagine. We are now contacting Citroen UK who will send one out to us so that we can continue on to: Controle Technique: Will post the results later.... Just a quickie. The last part of the process is a visit with all the above paperwork to our local prefecture. Anyone know where that is for someone living near Chef Boutonne? regards Al Fresco

Al Fresco
Thanks for that! Can I just confirm that we need to visit the prefecture and not the sous prefecture? regards Al Fresco

Sunday Driver
Visit the prefecture in Niort. If you park down in the Donjon car park, then walk to the right along the riverside towards the traffic lights, then turn left up the hill. Prefecture is on the left.
