giving my car away

Recommended Posts

I intend to give my car to my daughter who lives in England.

The car is originally English, now on French plates. It has 12 months left of its French mot.

Can anyone advise me what legalities I need to go through?

Thanks

Your daughter will need to import the car and register it under her name.  She can obtain an import pack from the DVLA and if she then visits her local DVLA office, they will help her with the forms.

She will first need to put the car through an MOT test (your CT has no validity outside France) and she will need to obtain a UK insurance certificate.  The DVLA will input the old UK registration number off the carte grise and call up the original UK type approval details (so no certificate of conformity required).  If they haven't auctioned it off already, they'll probably reissue your old number.

Simple process - similar to when you imported the car over here.
