I'm still trying to persuade Mrs Benjamin that we need a GPS system to find the local supermarket but with little success [:D]

Amazon France are offering a VDO Dayton MS 2110 Feta model with European mapping for 179€ against a High Street price of 250€.

I appreciate if Amazon are knocking them out cheaply then they're probably shortly to be upgraded but does anyone know this model or have any comments on this offer?

I’ve no experience of VDO satnav, however €179 seems a good deal for a device with European street level mapping.  A TomTom One Europe is about €299.

I couldn’t find any reviews of this model in English (they’re all in Dutch!), but you can read the spec on it on the VDO website:  http://www.vdodayton.com/default2_and_fz_menu=portable_navigation.aspx  Note you may need a separate GPS antenna if your car has a heat reflective front windscreen.

You could try asking if anyone has any feedback on the VDO on this forum which is also a good source of info on satnavs: http://www.yournav.com/

I’ve just noticed someone is bidding €200 on eBay France for one!

Thanks for your comments.

There are some reviews at the bottom of the product page on the Amazon site but they are very mixed with opinions either very much for or very much against. Reading the reviews, in French so I may be missing some subtler points, I think that set up is an issue with some of the reviews.

Essentially, if I purchase, this will be a toy for me although we do travel to Spain and the UK so I can't justify a higher cost system but on the other hand I don't want to waste money on a piece of kit which is poor at best or next to useless at worst.
