AnOther
I think I've stumbled on a subtle advantage of having a Tele-Peage doofah when towing a big trailer.I've just downloaded my bills for Sept and Oct and noticed that for the times when I've been towing my trailer, which was most times, I've been billed for Class 1 more often than Class 2 which is what it's invariably been when I used to pay cash.Haven't worked it out in precisely but at a glance I'd say I'm around €50 up on the 2 month's [8-|]

JJ
How does the Tele Peage system work, I know you have a sensor which gets read and you get billed, but is there any advantage if you are an occassional user of peages? or do you have to be a regular user? is ther a monthly standing charge etc? Sunday Driver
If your car plus trailer weigh less than 3500kg, then the only difference is the height - Class 1 is up to 2m, Class 2 is between 2 and 3m. I assume there are sensors which automatically determine which charging category you fall into. I suspect that the times you've been charged Class 2 rates will have been because the trailer was loaded up high.
AnOther
The train weight could well have been around 3500kg however it's a box trailer with a height of approx 2.4m so, according to your definition, would fall into Class 2 irrespectively. On maybe 4 or 5 previous trips, prior to having the transponder, it was invariably charged at Class 2 and shown as such on the display at the booth. There is undoubtedly an inconsistency because on 2 return journey tolls were charged at both rates but you'll not find me complaining [:D]I don't recall noticing any weight sensors at the booths BTW so if the train were in excess of 3500kg but under 2m in height how would the operator or the system determine it as Class 2 I wonder ?jj;There is an initial deposit of €30 which is refundable if you decide to send it back - in good working order of course. Then there is a small monthly fixed charge of something like €1.6 or so if memory serves. There is no minimum use requirement.Whether it's worthwhile for occasional use is debateable however where it can really come into it's own is in the holiday season when you can sail through relatively untroubled whilst lesser mortals can sometimes, so I've heard, queue for half an hour or more. Plus it seems, it's very useful if you have a big trailer [:D][:D][:D]
