A308 MAN
greetings from the Isle of Man ... this is my first post.this summer, i organised a tour of around eight cars, around france, following our annual Le Mans 24 hour pilgrimage ... we hit the millau bridge, gorges du tarn, ardeche, vercours, the alps, route de napoleon and monaco.next year, we intend to take the ferry to santander, then biarritz, the pyrennees, near barcelona, then zig zag across the south of france (50-100 miles inland followed by a night on the coast etc) and ending up in portofino, italy ... the train will carry man and beast home from nice to calais.we wish to visit a hotel/chateaux with it's own vineyard/winery for a little culture, just for one night ... we may do the bridge again and will deffo stay in castellane once again. does anyone have any recommendations as to lunch stops, good, lively hotels and fantastic driving routes/roads ?many thanks in anticipation.kind regards, david

cooperlola
Sorry, I missed this. As I'm already there, I only have 25 mins to do to the circuit, I can't help you as per a route. But see you in June anyway![:)] A third of the way there now.As a tip, try posting this in the regional boards - then you'll get straight to the locals! The main topic in this thread always seems to be about whether you can live in France and have a car with UK plates, or whether you can have a Ukranian registered car in Oz and be insured in Mozambique.... you get the picture! Maybe also, the Travel-based boards might be better...
Jonzjob
Same here, just picked it up.If you are going near Perpignan there is a really lovely route North towards Quillan (pronounced Keeyan!?) that goes through the gorges of the Upper Aude river near Quillan (Yes that is where 'he who must be obeyed, milk monitor lives!! Sorry Chris [:D]) . On the way to the gorges you pass through a very wide valley with several amazing Cathar castle ruins on the tops of the 'hills (Bruddy mountains really). It's a lovely part of the country. Then onto Carcassonne and that is a must just to see the Old Cité... Don't forget to collect some Blanquette on the way through Limoux. Much better and 1/2 the price of champers in my humble opinion! From Carcassonne it's an easy A62 route back to the Med.Sorry, not too sure bout the hotel situation due to living here. Good luck! Fleur
I missed this thread too.I can't really help with your query but greetings to the IOM which looked pretty as a picture last week when we went 'home' for a few days.Anyone got any tales to tell of their experiences going over the bridge? http://artofdesign.wordpress.com/2006/11/01/the-millau/ We're going that way next month. Should I be nervous?http://artofdesign.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/millau_fosterweb2.jpg
