Mr Coeur de Lion
I wish there was. But only in exchange for reasonable income tax/social security tax rates![:)]
AnOther
Whilst there is no recurring road tax as such there is a fee to be paid on 1st registration, then again another by a new owner if you sell plus if you move departments (this one may be free) so there is an income stream albeit by other names and methods. There is of course the bi-annual CT test, analagous to the UK's MOT, but only for cars over 4 years old. It's recently gone up to something like 64Euros IIRC.Other than that, if you keep your car forever and never move or go on the peage, then after the registration fee you never pay anything more [:D]
mint
Erns, anytime you want to quit that oil rig, I reckon you have a future as a stand-up comic. You certainly make me laugh and, moreover, your language is clean!

zeb
There's going to be some sort of increased duty for gas guzzlers from the beginning of next year, but I should imagine that the rates will go up for the carte gris when the car is first registered. Did anyone else follow this on the news yesterday?
powerdesal
But gas is still cheaper than petrol or diesel so a conversion still makes sense, if you do enough miles /kms
Bob T
Yes, gas is much cheaper, but it does not go as far as petrol let alone diesel.
powerdesal
The cost per km is cheaper though, thats what matters.

Mr Coeur de Lion
No ta. Moving to France for us was all about downsizing. Our house is big enough for two people (and 2 dogs) and our car is big enough for 2 people (and two dogs).
