Maximum lengths on roof bars

I am bringing a youngman staging board that is 6 metres long over in two weeks. It usually travels no problem on the roof bars of my Renault Trafic. The overhang is about 60cms front and back. Are there any laws on this in France?

Hope someone can help

Nothing allowed to overhang at the front, maximum 3 meters at the rear, according to my copy of the Code de la route.

Sounds like you should be ok[:D]

OK I believe it [blink]

When I was renovating our house in UK, 20 years ago now, I brought all the new floorboards home on a Thule ski rack on the roof of my MGB GT. Some were over 6m long but the actual racks were only about 1m apart on the small roof then they were tied down to the bumpers front and rear. I still have the rack. I later also brought an entire bathroom suite home in it [;-)]

No laws in France to worry about, but if you are bringing it over on a ferry or the shuttle they may have problem with the 6 metre length at peak period.  When you booked did you include the additional length when entering the dimensions of your vehicle?
