sharkhunter
Hi all, would it be best to have the CT done to know exactly what repairs are necessary or fix the obvious first ( hydraulic suspension- cit xantia ) and the n CT after, or is there a legal requirement to have CT first and there after repairs, Hugh. gosub
I would take it to a local garage for a pre MOT to establish the amount of work required, before booking the CT.
dave21478
I always get the test done first (both in france and uk) as it gives you a definite list to work towards, and allows you to decide if its actually worth proceeding with repairs. The problem with a garage doing a pre-inspection is that all tests come down to the opinion of the tester on the day. One guy might think that a certain level of wear or corrosion is acceptable whereas another might not. The risk is the pre inspection coming back ok (and the car may well be ok in that mechanics opinion) but the CT tester may think otherwise and fail the car. At least by having the CT done first, you have a definitive list of faults, and repairing those faults will result in a pass.Plus, the price of a pre-inspection is likely to be not too far off the price of an actual test anway. No point in paying twice imo.
