jo
My daughter has just passed her driving test,(phew!) in Spain, if she was staying here she would have to drive for a year with a green L displayed on the rear of the car. However we are about to move to live in France, she will come with us but hoping to return to Spain for University in the latter part of 2009. So not becoming a permenant resident in France, but still a new driver, what rules will she need to follow while she is in France, she will turn 19 in January and really hoping for our first French Birthday! cooperlola
Here it's a red A sticker and drivers have fewer points on their licenses (making it easier to lose!) for the first year or two. My code de la route is at home and I'm not but undoubtedly Sunday Driver will know what the regs are concerning those coming from other EU countries. Sunday Driver
Her Spanish licence will be valid for driving in France provided she complies with the usual conditions relative to it's duration, medical requirements etc, as well as any restrictive measures which affect the licence. One restrictive measure involves all new drivers in France who are subject to a three year 'apprentice' status (two years if they completed a conduite accompagnée) whereby their points capital is restricted to six points. During this period, they are restricted to a maximum speed of 110kph on autoroutes, 100kph on dual carriageways, and 80kph on other roads. They must also display the Macaron A on the rear of the vehicle. jo
Thankyou for your help, rules exactly the same as here, but with a different sticker. Will abide by them. Here we can only purchase the appropriate stickers at the driving school that she learnt with. Where can we, on arrival purchase a Macaron ? Sorry should have included that question in my original post. Annoyingly she has just received her full licence to much excitment through the post, some idiot at the police station has put she was born in Argentina, so now we have to apply for a fresh one, the ink ain´t even dry!! Sunday Driver
You can buy a macaron at most supermarkets or car tyre/accessory shops like Feu Vert, Norauto, etc..
