CeeJay
I have a complete kitchen to bring down in a couple of weeks time and am looking at the weight problem. I know the weight of each individual carton but am not sure of the allowable weight to be carried. Would I be right in thinking that the weight allowed should be Gross Vehicle Weight minus the Kerb Weight, and does either of those weights take into account a full tank of fuel? Weegie
From a towing site:"The usual definition of kerb weight is a vehicle in its ready to use condition with all tools, spare wheel etc. and a full tank of fuel. Many vehicle manufacturers are, however, now following European Directive 95/48/EC which specifies the kerb weight as a car in ready to drive condition with the fuel tank 90% full, a driver on board weighing 68 kg and luggage of 7 kg." PaulT
A complete kitchen will be very weighty. I transported mine in 2 goes, and a number of units were in a small trailer and even then the springs were well down and I had already bought the tops in France. If the car has a tow bar, hire a trailer, or look on ebay and buy a cheap trailer (always handy) and take it down in that.Paul
