Nell
We took delivery of a new camper van today, but the registration number is temporary (A WW plate). Have been told this needs to be changed within a month. Fine, I knew about this strange way of selling new cars.... but, can anyone point me in the right direction to a site where I can download the forms needed for the prefecture (I like to be able to fill in forms before I get there if possible..) and any ideas on the costs of re-registering a new vehicle to permanent plates? Any help greatly appreciated.
Anton Redman
Assuming you purchased in France I would have said it was the dealers problem to sort it out.Failing that there was a one to one correspondance between then European certificate of Conformity and the form I had to fill in to register our car in France
Nell
Yes we did purchase in France. I think this WW plate stuff is normal. The insurance company were quite happy with it and the dealer just said we need to go to the prefecture within a month. Really just trying to get some idea of how much it's going to cost to change to permanent plates..Thanks
Anton Redman
I thought it was free provided it was in the same department
Gardian
As Anton says, I suspect that it'll all happen automatically. Well, it did for us anyway. They did say something when we took delivery of the car, but it went over our heads. Anyway, phone call a week or so later, request to drop in, plates changed, pukka carte grise handed over. No more money, though that might depend on your dealer and the deal you've done. Sunday Driver
If there is no urgency in taking delivery of a vehicle, then the dealer will normally take copies of your identity/address documents then submit a registration request to the prefecture on your behalf. That means that the full carte grise is handed over to you when you collect the vehicle. The registration fee in included in the sale invoice. However, if you want to take delivery before the vehicle is registered, then the dealer can issue a temporary fifteen day WW carte grise there and then (they purchase books of WW registration numbers from the prefecture for this purpose). He will then process your normal registration request as above, then invite you back to hand over your full carte grise and change your plates. It's unusual for a dealer to issue a WW carte grise then leave you to organise the full carte grise by yourself, so I'd contact them to check the situation. Benjamin
We have now purchased two new cars in France (1998 and 2006) and on both occassions the dealer has called us back after two or three weeks and changed the WW plates for the permanent ones.I've just dug out the invoice for the 2006 purchase and listed there is Carte Grise (TTC) 143,00 and WW Provisoire 29,00 (TTC) both Euro amounts.
