grandadJohn
I keep hearing references in the UK news to a car "scrappage" scheme operating in France, Germany etc. I'm sorry if this has all been explored before and if so perhaps somebody can post the link, but is this really in operation and is it practical? Can I really turn in my 15 year old RHD heap for a new small economical car? Too good to be true.............? Thanks for the help, John
allanb
I don't know how far it's progressed in France, but it is in operation in Germany. Apparently there's at least one unintended consequence, in the form of a black market for "scrapped" cars. To a legitimate dealer, the scrap car is worth nothing but its scrap value; but if it can be made to vanish over a border into a country where registration is not so well policed, bingo! You have a car for sale.
Clair
http://www.service-public.fr/actualites/001093.html(in Googlespeak here)€1000 for your old car (must be at least 10 years old), but only if you buy a new car which produces no more than 160 g of CO ² / km.
