Supplementary question related to Cathy's on trailers

I didn't want to divert Cathy's thread on trailers so I thought I'd start another thread.

If I want to have a trailer permanently in France (at our secondaire) can I just bring one over from the UK and leave it there. I only want something within the 500kg limit so nothing too big. It will be towed by a UK registered car when we are over for our visits to the house. The trailer would have a UK registration plate matching our UK car of course.

Any likely problems with that?

I meant the trailer all up weight not the combo. Flics have been known to target UK cars with trailers and caravans and worst case they can both fine you and immobilise the trailer, even happened to my neighbour with French plates on his car but an unregistered trailer which was pretty obviously over 500kg, having a handbrake was a dead giveaway [blink].

Ernie. The related wights from the manufacturer seem to be:

Kerb weight 1,964 Kg

Gross vehicle weight 2,570 Kg

Max tow weight braked 2,200 Kg

Max tow weight unbraked 750 Kg

Nose weight 88Kg

So I think I should be fine with an under 500Kg trailer, won't I?

btw, the car in question is a Hyundai Santa Fe diesel).
