bixy
I went to get a quote for two new tyres for a 4x4 and was told that it is obligatory to have the same brand on all four wheels. I knew you had to have the same brand on an axle but not all four wheels. Can anyone confirm this? Patrick
Bugsy
Not sure about the legislation but, given differing variations of size from different manufacturers (rolling radius etc), it surely makes sense to fit four of the same.
bixy
It doesn't make quite as much sense when you've still got two perfectly good tyres and at €150+ per tyre...Patrick
Red Dwarf
This sounds like “sales talk”. I’d always prefer to have the same brand all round, but I didn’t manage it on our Astra and that has passed two CTs with Michelins on the front and Continentals on the rear. Yes, all should be the same size/construction and I’d definitely want the same brand on an axle. Time to try another tyre dealer I suspect. Anton Redman
Some debate about whther it should simply be same brand or Same manufacturer and model but nowhere in the legislation has anybody ever found anything other than same tyres on same axel and no mixing of radials, by belt or cross plys. bixy
This was specifically about a 4x4. OH asked the CT bloke when taking in our other car and he said definitely not required for a 4x4. Good enough for me.Thanks to all those who replied.Patrick
PaulT
Not just same brand on an axle but the same tread pattern - otherwise they will have different characteristics that could cause problems.
bigears
hiif you have two good tyres of the same make, hunt out another two of that same make.
Théière
How do you get on with a CT if you for instance, own a big BMW with different size wheels and tyres on the front and back as standard?
