tasng4
I've just written to my insurqance company cancelling the insurance for my motorcycle (vehicule du collection). The reason I gave was that the bike is undergoing restoration. They replied saying this wasn't a legally acceptable reason to cancel. I know that in France cars/bikes etc. must be insured but I thought this was only if they were road worthy. The bike is in the garage in 000's of pieces and hence isn't road worthy. Can anyone explain the rules? Thanks in advance.
Sunday Driver
Your right of cancellation will be set out in the policy terms and conditions - typically that would be upon disposal either through sale or via an approved destruction facility. If the terms don't mention temporarily taking the vehicle off the road for restoration then you would have no such right, therefore cancellation would be at the discretion of the insurance company. I'd suggest writing to them again to make sure they understand that bike has been dismantled and is no longer capable of use on the road and request that they reconsider their decision.
