buying second-hand car - changing departments

Having bough a car from a neighbouring department, how long does one have to register the change-of-plate ?

There is no longer any legal requirement to change plates (if I have understood correctly[:D])

......but you still have to notify a change of ownership and obtain a new carte grise in your name.

If the car has the old style plates, you'll be issued with a new 'for life' number which will mean buying new plates.
