Racerbear02
My partner wants to buy a 50cc moped or scooter to get about on, he is 38 and does not hold a driving licenceCan anyone advise what are the requirement for him to ride one legally, it used to be that you basically got insurance and off you went, can anyone advise if this is still the case? does he need a BSR, or is that just for youngsters?Any advice most welcome
Sunday Driver
As he was born prior to 31 December 1987, he may ride a 50cc bike without having to have a BSR or a driving licence. So it's get insurance and off he goes.Just make sure he swots up on the highway code (code de la route) first..........[;-)]

Sunday Driver
No, just bikes under 50cc.For a 125cc you would need either a category A1 licence or a category B licence issued prior to 1 January 2007 (which automatically includes the lower category A1 entitlement by equivalence). Category B licences issued after 1 January 2007 don't have automatic A1 entitlement by equivalence so you must complete a mandatory three hour training session then take your training certificate to your prefecture to get your licence updated with an A1 entitlement. Racerbear02
OK SD here is a nice one for youI have been offered a Honda Stream, 50cc scooter with 2 real wheels ala Ariel Arrow. It is from Belgium but I have never seen one on the road over here, I am sure I was told a while ago that they were not possible to use in France because of something to do with having two rear wheels and being under 50cc, but I could be mistaken, I often am [:)]Do you know if he could use one of these? would have to get CoC or something similar to register it now? Thanks in advance

Sunday Driver
All motor vehicles must have valid type approval for France before they can be used on the roads here. If you can't obtain the necessary certificate of conformity for your Honda Stream, or you're not prepared to put it through an expensive DRIRE single vehicle approval inspection, then it can't be ridden in France.
