Van Hire

A tip about hiring a van from Location U:

Underestimate your mileage (kilometrage?).  It's cheaper to top up the charge when they have read your meter than paying too much (they don't give refunds of you travel less than you estimated), unless they have recently changed their policy.

It never ceases to amaze me the tricks that they get up to [:(]

Our Intérmarché has emblazoned across their biggest fourgons "Louez-moi à partir de €24" which is the half day hire price (not including mileage) for their smallest van not the ones that are signwritten.

The instructions tell you to fill it up at the Intermarché pumps at the rear before returning it, if you do so you will hit the height barrier, the kiosk attendant will phone through to the shop to say "another pigeon arriving soon!) when you return it they will mark roof damage on the return inspection report and deduct €1000 from your caution for damage which is never repaired, all the roofs of all the large vans are scraped and rusty.

Now I have seen tons of them with damaged roofs and bodywork, the lads like to tip them over when they are bien arrosée, its quite sad really as they are just victimising those least able to fight back, they bang on their shutters and taunt them whilst they are doing it.

I did see one that had clearly been rolled by its driver it had some impressive gouges out of it but was still being driven.

As a follow up to my original question I ended up hiring from Brico Depot which was both cheap and easy. Driving license, utility bill, cheque to cover damage which is then returned (unless .....). The staff were friendly and didnt charge until I was loaded up (which was a good half hour). Petrol was included (depending on kilometres but I did only 100k so was OK).

All in all a success.
