Shelly
Hi we broke down near Toulouse this week. The pick up only covered us to the nearest garage. We've left it 15 mins from Toulouse. We need to get it back to Cahors. We've been quoted 355 just to tow it back here to a garage. Does anyone know any other company cheaper. Looks like we need a new engine in it and it's a landrover. Very expensive. Thanks shelly.
Pickles
Perhaps try renting a camion porte-voitures - try Kiloutou or FranceCars.RegardsPicles

Pickles
Can you tow a car with a bar on non motorways in France?
You can tow a car with a bar, so long as it is not on a motorway and not on a voie rapide (dual carriageway). Your speed is limited to 50Km/h IIRC.However, if you are going any distance, it is not recommended - the towing vehicle will be doing most of the braking, and it will be hard work on the towcar and the driver. If you have access to a suitable vehicle, hiring a trailer might be more prudent - but you need to be careful of the gross train weight (maximum authorised mass) limitations and the need for your licence to cover you for the combination weights that you will be dealing with - ie Pre 1997 UK licence, post-97 UK C1+E or French Permis E may be necessary.RegardsPickles
