I have mower which last month would not start and I found a new solenoid solved the problem.

Today, now rain stopped tried to start it but engine not turning but  a vibration noise seems to come from new solenoid !!?????

Any ideas please...batery ok and conectins to solenoid....HELP GRASS IS COMING UP TOO FAST AND LOTS OF OTHER MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS/when it rains it pours!!as problems grow too!!

Check all connections are clean and tight. Then use a car jump-lead as a process of elimination. Start with one end on the battery +ve, and touch the other to the battery side of the solenoid and try the key. If this works, there is a problem with the main lead to the solenoid. Else, clip the jump lead to the starter side of the solenoid (be prepared for it to turn over). if it works, the problem is with the solenoid, if not, its probably the starter. If the starter is suspect, touch the jump lead to the terminal on the starter and see if it spins, and to check the pinion slips up its spiral track to engage with the flywheel. The starter motors themselves generally outlast the plastic pinion, which is available as a seperate spare part from any decent machinery shop.

Oh, and there is no harm just starting it with the jump lead for now so it can be used until you get it sorted out if its the solenoid or other problem. Ignition on, one end on the battery +ve, the other end touched to the connection on the starter motor.
