Caravan used for accommodation during renovation project - advice on resale etc

We have a UK caravan bought locally in France in 2006 which we used while renovating a property. It is a 5 berth 1996 Swift caravan. We'ld like to sell it if possible. I've read various posts about the French registration process but wondered if any one could advise on:

1. Possibility of selling as is with no French registration for simlar use on owners own site

2. Are there specialist French companies who can inspect caravan electrics and gas and repair where necessary 

3. We have the caravan log book but did not get a receipt when we bought it - would this be a problem if registering in France?

I successfully registered a 1989 Lunar touring caravan back in 2006 with some good advice from Sunday Driver. It is a bit tedious, and there are costs involved, but you just have to jump through the hoops of French bureaucracy!

The market for UK caravans is very limited. If you were to sell it to someone to use for accommodation the main problem would be how to transport it, but you could leave that responsibilty to them once they've paid. Without a French registration it would either have to be towed by a UK car (with the caravan displaying the same number plate as the car), or they'd have to obtain a temporary French registration which lasts about 3 weeks (or 30 days, can't remember now, sorry) to allow it to be towed by a French vehicle. Insurace required also.

I would think that any caravan dealer would be able to carry out inspections and repairs; look under "loisirs evasions caravanes" in the pages jaunes, but you'd probably have to get it to them.

For registering in France the original receipt is not a crucial document; it's mainly needed to for newer vehicles in order to prove that the VAT has been paid. My advice would be to "be creative" [;-)] with WORD !

If you wish to sell it I don't think I would bother trying to register it, unless you particularly want to sell it as a road-ready tourer.

Thanks for the advice. I think you're right. We'll try to sell it to someone with a similar need to ours a few years ago. At the worst it could be an outside spare room.
