NormanH
I just got a quotation from Europcar for a Monday morning -Friday evening hire of a basic model, picking up at my local station in FranceI used a link I had been given by someone living in the UK, so it presumed that I had a UK address too. That quotation was for £129, and they said that it would come out at about 144€When I filled in my actual details with my French address (which I presume has to be right so that the credit card will work) I was given a new quotation of 224€...80€ more for the same car for the same period just because my address is in France.I am a bit miffed at this to say the least and wonder if anyone can explain why this difference of price is there. NormanH
But why not the other way round?I would have thought that someone with a French address and licence was a safer bet for tham
Loiseau
It's not the wretched insurance fiddle, is it Norman?I recently hired a car from Hertz in Sicily, booked online and with full collision damage waver. When we actually got there to pick it up, they said of course the insurance was fully comp, but with an excess of 1,000 euros. If i wanted to be fully covered for damage to car up to that amount, it would be another 31 euros a day! No wonder the original hire charge had seemed so reasonable! It effectively cost double what I thought at the outset.Apparently this is now normal practice with car-hire firms struggling to appear competitive. The solution apparently is to pay a small annual premium to a specialist company back home that will insure you for excess on your car hire bookings for the whole year. But maybe this is not your problem, in which case I am sorry to have rambled on...Angela (enjoying the sunshine in the Pas de Calais today)

I would rather ask face-to-face than by email or phone.
EuroTrash
Could it be that regardless of where you pick the car up from, contracts with UK residents are classed as UK transactions and contracts with French residents are classed as French transactions, with all that that involves in accountancy terms - business taxes, pricing etc.Still and all it seems a big difference. NormanH
In addition the English version had unlimited mileage, and the French one has a limit of 1750km for the week!
