suein56
Lidl and Aldi win blind taste tests ...http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/news/want-the-best-olive-oil-then-save-yourself-some-money-1758556.html, but IaI have not tried either of these up to now but if they are this good then I am willing to give them a trial.Sue
5-element
I very much agree with the findings, have been using that product for years. Occasionally, I have tried something else which I thought "must be better quality" since it was much dearer, but have always come back to LIDL's.I have wondered for a long time how they manage to keep the price so low - what chemicals and what processes the oil goes through, or how exploited the producers and/or agricultural workers might be to ensure such a good and cheap product.Yet, I keep buying it... Clair
I read the report earlier this week and wanted to try the Lidl olive oil, but they didn't have any in the shop I went to yesterday.I have bought the Leader Price one before and found it very good and good value too, but of course, it wouldn't be included in a taste test in the UK [:)]. Jonzjob
This sounds quite interesting because we have been looking for a goo olive oil to use in cooking.A few years back Italy were exporting nearly 5 times the olive oil than they had trees. Mostly to the States and the prices were around the 15/20$ per pint mark. The mafia, bless their pure hearts, were behind a lot of it and apparently were finding that a 'legal' trade was more profitable than the normal standards!! The oil was imported from N Africa, Greece, Spain and anywhere and after it had been in the country for 24 hours was deemed to be home groan. Sorry grown.I think that this is frowned upon now???
