Théière
If you haven't been sent a bill you obviously don't need to pay it [;-)] just save the money into an account just in case. You'll only confuse the civil servants by trying to pay for something they haven't asked you for [:)]
suein56
so i can maybe call and try pay...
Théière is right; you will be sent a bill eventually so really the best thing to do is to put some money aside for whenever the bill(s) arrive. It could take a while, maybe years, depending on where you live.Sue
EuroTrash
My taxe foncière bill has just appeared online in the last few days, I haven't had the paper copy yet.
NormanH
Most of my tax affairs are only online these days, with no paper copy at all. I can't remember if that applies to TF.
EuroTrash
You're right Norman, you've reminded me that there were boxes to tick for each kind of tax to say whether or not you wanted them to stop sending paper bills. I think I ticked paperless for everything except the avis d'impot. That probably explains why I haven't had a paper foncière bill!
NormanH
Very sensible to ask for a a paper copy of the 'Avis d'imposition'. I had a couple of times this last year where banks looked very askance at my printed out version which hasn't got quite the same look as the usual paper one. YCCMB
It's reassuring that France has finally started to enter the 21st century with online billing. I wonder how long it will be before they start to dip a toe in the water of allowing people to cancel things online, or, heaven forfend, by phone? I expect that will take a while, because, after all, it'll seriously dent the profits of La Poste when people stop having to add €4.55 (or whatever it is now) to their coffers every time they have to send a letter (RAAR) to cancel stuff. Patf
The trouble is that in rural areas many people don't have a computer, mainly the elderly. I think that's why France has hung onto using chequebooks for so long. Many even have trouble getting money out of the bank cash machine - perhaps a bank account is a novelty too, and they would never trust online banking. NormanH
Not only in rural areas, but old people, really poor people, and those not capable of mastering IT.I have had several tenants over the years none of whom have had easy access to the Internet (apart from me) and only one of whom had a bank account until she became interdite bancaire
YCCMB
I'm not suggesting for a moment that computer-based transactions should be the only option, but surely it's about time that the wider French economy accepted that things like cancelling a contract can be done by e-mail just as satisfactorily as in writing? Good job none of the rural elderly are ever likely to travel anywhere using a low-cost airline......
