Simon K
When you're buying a property, don't forget that is the buyer's privilage to choose the Notaire. Most agents will politely pressure you into using the Vendor's Notaire but this isn't always going to be the best move.See if you can get personal reccomendations from someone you know. There are after all, good Notaires and bad Notaires.I live near the town of Pezenas and can reccomend Maitre RASIGADE in Pezenas Tel : 0467981483 and Maitre BANCAL nearby in Roujan Tel : 0467246353. I've used both and had very good experiences. I always reccomend my Clients use one of them. And don't be put off by geography either. Maitre BANCAL told me last week that he's on a plane or a train at least once a week to oversea the signing of a contract somewhere in France.Simon.__________________I live in the Languedoc area of France. Tony F Dordogne
Didn't think it was that subtle, having looked at the web site can see the London influence in advertising.

Will
Unsolicited advertising is not permitted on the forum, neither is the use of signatures for commercial advertising purposes. The user has been informed - go easy please, it was his first post. Notaires are impartial, they are essentially working for the government rather than for seller or buyer. Quite unlike the English system where each party must use a different conveyancer, and the arguments between the two frequently delay the process and add to costs. I would not agree that either the the buyer or the seller can specify the notaire, though each can appoint a different notaire who will, under normal circumstances, share the fees (all paid by the buyer). I would agree wholeheartedly that some notaires are much more cooperative, knowledgeable and efficient than others. I would normally recommend people follow the agents' recommendation, they know which ones are good. A smooth sale is in the agent's interests after all. Don't believe all the stories about collusion between agents and notaires, and backhanders, it does happen, but is relatively uncommon in comparison with all the honest agents and notaires in France.
