wildey
If we take our UK TV with us, I know we can't receive French TV on it, but can we still play videos on it and can we access SKY, or do we need a French TV for all of this. Does anyone know?
Ron Avery
You can get French TV on your UK TV if it is new TV and has SECAM, you just plug in an aerial and tune it. As far as SKY etc goes, have a look in the satellite and TV section, this has been covered recently, or do a search on SKY TV .
Eslier
Yes, you can receive Sky - bring the digibox and dish with you.Yes, you can receive French TV via a TNT box and an aerial (a bit like "freeview" in the UK)No, correct, you are extremely unlikely to have a UK tv that will receive Fench secam signals through an aerial without a TNT box. P
Eslier Most modern TVs sold in the UK are now multi-standard - i.e. they will work anywhere in Europe.A make that it is certainly true for is Philips. There excellent website has enabled me to check which of our sets will work in France. Out of 3 Philips sets, our 32" one will and 15" LCD. The only one that will not is a 14" portable with built in video recorder. Paul
Eslier
Paul, I think you will find that Philips is the exception rather than the rule. Indeed there are a lot more "multi-standard" TVs in the UK but most of these will be PAL/NTSC. It is not so common to find SECAM functionality. Teamedup
Yes you will still have to pay your tv licence as you would be able to receive french tv, even if it is only in black and white.
Chrissie
We have an old (1980s) English TV which we keep in the sous-sol just for watching old UK videos. To my surprise it also plays perfectly the videod progs we currently tape off SKY.Chrissie (81)
