Goosey
Hello all, I am a painter (not painter and decorator) and want to become registered here as an artist. Can someone tell me whether that is really the same as an 'artisan'? I want to take advantage of the health system and pay my taxes properly, but I don't expect to be earning much money, so I want to be registered in the most simple way (and obviously pay as little in cotisations etc as possible, naturally!). If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful, yes I know I will have to find an accountant but I'd like to go fore-armed with an idea of what I need first. Many thanks :)
Nick Trollope
No, an Artisan is a "craftsman". An Artisan would register with the Chambre de Metiers. I believe thatthere is actually a similar organisation specifically for artists - why, I don't know. If noone knows, you could start with your Chambre de Commerce (look in yellow pages) - they should be able to point you in the right direction. Will
Nick is correct, an artisan is not the same thing as an artist. There are special arrangements, you should certainly speak to an accountant, but before doing so you will probably find more information at www.apce.com and www.urssaf.fr.
