ChezTinns
Having remained boggle-eyed in Champion in front of the washing powder section for the last two visits my pile of washing still won't go away and I MUST do it. Please can anyone help with what washing powder by name or make I need to keep my fosse happy and working. Thanks
Hoddy
Normally the water from a washing machine doesn't go through a fosse so it doesn't matter which powder you use. Hoddy
Tony F Dordogne
Where does it go then, I assumed that all the grey water went through the fosse?
BJSLIV
If you have a modern system as the name (toutes eaux) suggests everything goes into the fosse. If you have an older (non conforming )system, which will eventually have to be replaced then the grey water may still go direct to the outside world. ChezTinns
I did too, which was why I wanted to use a fosse-friendly washing liquid/powder
Hoddy
There must be different systems. The waste from our loos goes into the tank which I call the fosse. The water from the bath, washing machine and other such things goes into a separate tank which is down the line from the fosse. From there it goes to drains in the field.Hoddy
zeb
They weren't really very helpful were they, cheztinns?I have a fosse that takes all my waste and use Dash (think it's the French name for Bold). Don't know if it's fosse friendly but we've had no problems and it suits MOH with all his itchy problems!!Plumber and neighbour suggested using liquid instead of powder which may clogs things up. hastobe
Does this mean I can happily use bleach - so long as I don't put it down the loo??Hastobe

derf
As an addition to my previous post, we use bleach in moderation, in the kitchen bathrooms and showers, and use any type of washing powder, but we are careful to use fosse friendly cleaners etc for the toilet/fosse system
Loiseau
...and to put a packet or two of Eparcyl activator down the loo from time to time to make sure it all keeps working...Angela

Good for allergies etc as well. Not absolutely perfect for whites so add a splash of Ace or other oxygen bleach to leave you clean and sterile.HTHJohn

I used to live in a very hard water area and they did make a tremendous diff to my wash... BTW, I'm still using the first set of "fills" and the refills are still waiting to be used!Although I am amazed at the cost!! I never paid that much for them![8-)]Edit: having re-read this and Iceni/John's reply below, I want to add that I too would still buy them... Iceni
In a feeble attempt to save money we bought a similar product from L****and - as much use as the proverbial chocolate fireguard. But when you calculate how much the giant boxes of detergent cost for 1000/2000 washes the high initial cost impact of yr balls is still worth it.Johnnot

What do you do if you live in France??? [/quote]Here are several sites where you can buy something similar, but I'm not sure these balls contain anything. They just help to "beat" the clothes inside the washing machine.http://www.naturelle-attitude.com/auxiliaires-de-lavage-10/balles-de-lavage-25.htmlhttp://www.pandashop.fr/fr/article.asp?categorie=12&ref=G3284These have magnets inside:http://www.conrad.fr/webapps/jeu_de_6.htmlThe nearest to what I use is here:http://www.lakelandlimited.co.uk/product.aspx/solutions/washing!5718The same ones I use are available here, but I have not looked into shipping to France:http://www.ecoballsdirect.co.uk/http://www.sciencemuseumstore.com/mall/productpage.cfm/ScienceMuseumStore/140346http://www.nigelsecostore.com/index.asp?function=DISPLAYPRODUCT&productid=69Will that do?
