Lollie
HiMy nephew has just arrived and is looking for seasonal work thru summer, one or two places have taken his details and he is having a trial at one tonight, they have asked for a social security number, will his uk suffice or is there such a thing as a temporary number for students who travel abroad to work thru summer? Should I get down to CPAM quickly?Lollie
Val_2
You must register with the CPAM if it's possible to do for a foreign student as employers have to make payments to URSSAF and others from the wages and they need a point of reference. Also if there is an accident, the CPAM will have him ontheir computer in case of large medical bills to be paid. Under 18's are not usually employed in France because of the high insurance costs. Val_2
Most larger employers like supermarkets etc WILL NOT employ anyone under 18, I should know as I have a daughter who had to wait until she was 18 and that was three years ago and they still do not take them because of the insurance and paperwork problems as they are considered minors.Brittany Ferries stipulate 21 years minimum and I also know of artisans who cannot take youngsters on, again the same problems. Au pair is not quite the same as working in a large shop dealing with the public.

Lollie
Thanks Val, sorry its late to reply but had to go back to uk urgently. Unfortunately whilst away my nephew got a job washing up in a local restaurant, but after slogging it for almost a week he was informed that they wont pay him until end of august!!!!! I think not, so left with no money, going to CPAM tomorrow to get a social secuirity number, then back to the drawing board.
