From banker to excavator!

Hi all. Hope someone can assist.

Yes we, like many others, are removing ourselfs from the rat race and moving permenantly to our house in the Lot-et Garonne. We have owned the house for 5 years, so I confident about the move. Having said that, I am not a man that is prepared to retire early (aged 43) and want to change my career completely. I have spent most of my adult climbing up the corporate ladder and, frankly, can't bear it anymore.

So, I very good french friend of ours (who also happens to be a builder) has recently informed me about the high demand for a man with a mini-digger. Works will be private and include pools, foundations and trenches etc. Can anyone please provide me with some guidance, assistance, advice on this market?

I am looking to obtain work experience on a mini digger through a friend here in the UK and hoping to be installed in France by the summer. Thereafter, I am wanting to earn a resonable wage for offering out small excavation jobs.
