glacier1
A friend of mine exports wine to Europe, and I was wondering, how hard is it to get a licence to export wine? What is involved? Does anybody know? [:)]
Pierre ZFP
Can you clarify please? Exports from where to what parts of Europe?I looked at the possibility of importing French wine to UK and there were some difficulties. No 'license' of course as we're all good Europeans now. A stumbling block is the high rates of duty on wine. This has to be paid on import, and that's not easy as there aren't the facilities to do it at the ports anymore so it has to go to an approved warehouse and so on and so on. The alternative is having delivered to a bonded warehouse and pay as it comes out of there but that's not easy to arrange either. Also it's just not worth doing for less than a whole truckful and that is a significant outlay. The likes of the big supermarkets and Majestic have it all sewn up and can dictate the price to the producers so you cannot compete on price. I was looking at a niche market but there just wasn't the sort of sales that would make it viable.Sorry to be negative but that's how I saw it. Maybe you have a different idea?
