Working as a Physiotherapist in France?

Recommended Posts

On the back of a previous post of mine regarding GP work for myself in France, which yielded masses of useful information and opinion, my OH has asked me to pose a similar question for her.  She is a highly experienced and specialist qualified musculoskeletal physiotherapist and when our proposed move to France comes to fruition, would be interested in carrying on this work (she is bl**dy good at what she does!).

We would be locating to the St Gervais area of Haute Savoie and wondered if anyone knows what the demand or availability for her kind of expertise might be?  Also, are there any pitfalls that anyone knows regarding english physiotherapists being allowed to work in France, or any limitations there are on their mode of practice? I presume that all physio's practice as private practitioners, either alone or in a group setting, but correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

As usual, all comments and advice will be most gratefully received

You're wrong about the private practice bit.  Not that I'm a physio ('though my mother is), but I'm having treatment here at my rehab' centre and all 40 physios are employed by the service here.  My own is married to a physio, and she (his wife) is in private practice.  His take on this is that she earns a good deal more but that things like her pension and security benefits are far worse.  I can't tell you about employment opportunites (cetainly not in your area) but I do know that this centre at least employs several non-French Europeans (but no Brits that I've met).  They all speak fluent French and I believe may also need a French qualification, but I don't know enough about working to be sure of that.

Bon courage to you both.
