george0116
Having had a maison secondaire for the last 5 years, we would now like to live in France full time. To be able to do so requires that I work to supplement a military pension, and after researching the various options I attempted to register on-line as an auto-entrepreneur. Because we are in Deux Sevres (79), this is done through Guichet Enterprises, not the normal l'autoentrepeneur.fr site. Anyway about 3/4 of the way into the process I hit a block when the form required my social security number. I know that the normal site has a link to somewhere else that generates the number, but unfortunately the Guichet site just says give me your number! Never having worked in France I don't have one, so the question is does anyone have a similar experience, and how does one get the number. Help please! AnOther
Possibly your reference number from your local Impots which you wouldn't normally get until after you have submitted your first French tax return ?You can also go and ask for one I believe.I may be completely wrong though ! NormanH
Normally you have to get it from the CPAM nearest to where you live.YOu can check when you get it.It will be 1 (for a man) 2( for a woman)xy (last two numbers of your year of birth)ab (number of the month)99 (born not in France) 132 (code Insée for the UK) fgh your number in the month on your birth certificate (could be invented between1 and 100 ) op a 'key ' divide the total numbers so far by 97, then take the remainder away from 97 to give the key for example divide 1370476243484 by 97, you get 14128621067 82 is left over so the key = 97 – 82 = 15.Here is a worked example for a French personFor an English man born 10/11/54 it would be something like1 54 11 99 132 032

Chancer
My 5 denotes temporary, even after 7 years, maybe in time they will decide what sex I am [;-)]My other digits bear no relation to the code either other than my year of birth. It appears that I was born on the 22nd month.Born in departement 71Birth country 500I could not understand the rest. NormanH
Yours should be something like 1 xxyy 99 132 034 kkWhere xx is the yearyy is the monthand kk is calculated by the method I gave.
EuroTrashII
Mine follows the pattern up to a poin7:2 xxyy 99 132 271but the calculation doesn't work for the last 2 digits(but mine was issued back in the 70s so maybe the formula has changed)
NormanH
Those two are fiddly to calculate, and I think that I have given the correct formula.I used to know a site to check the clé, but I have lost the reference....
