Restaurant smells..

Has anyone any experience with living close to a restaurant and whether

there are any guidelines / rules on cooking smells and extractor

systems ? Is there any 'control' on smell ? Filtration requirements ?

Maybe it's the heat at the moment ( and lack of wind ) but the smells can be quite intrusive.. ( albeit quite tasty )..
