Rendering Materials

I'm currently contemplating rendering a storeroom, which is predominantly constructed from breeze blocks, and I would like some advice on the options available. I am familiar with a cement:sand mix, but wonder if there is anything else I could try. The front of the house has a rough render, which I would quite like to replicate, but have no idea what it is made of.

Any thoughts on mix, brands of materials, application of render etc. would be very gratefully received.
