The normally available 'Bottles' can contain either propane or butane. Because of the different freezing points of the two gases, butane cannot normally be used in outside installations. I don't know for certain, but would put good money on bulk gas, as sold for tanks, being considerably cheaper than the same thing in smaller quantities in bottles, even after tank deposits and/or rental are taken into account.
