edann42
My wife and I are both invalids and are much better when we are in the warmth. We cannot afford to buy in the South of France, but does anyone know other areas we should consider. Very short, cold winters would be OK. Any ideas?? Llwyncelyn
I live in (50) and please do not ask me what sort of winter we had last year. However our friends live in the Vendee and they tell us that the summer is wonderful and short sharp winters. However thats what they say but there is nothing like personal experience.

Sunday Driver
In general, northen winters can be damp, central winters very cold (higher altitudes), alpine winters snowy and cold (of course). We're in Poitou-Charentes - it has a warm summers and short cold winters. It's a nice compromise and it's quite good for my wife's arthritis.
united
Hi edann42,The Vendee has been mentioned in connection with your major concern, the weather. Another plus point is that its pretty flat which may be a factor for you and your wife.Good luck
Blanche Neige
It has been said before but do consider renting before buying, just to see whether you like the weather / area and the Winter months.

There's a narrow coastal area between southern Britanny and the Vendee that has as much sunshine and summer temperatures similar to the Cote d'azur.Coastal Charente is quite good too I think.
