Dave&Olive
as you all know I build a lot of furniture I was a bit worried about obtaining the products I use in France so I have e-mailed my supplier and have the recieved the following replyHi, Yes we can deliver to France, carraige charges vary but a rough guide is as followes: - 1-2kgs can be sent via Airmail at £4.00 per kilo so a maximum of £8.00 (other charges could apply for vauluable lightweight goods that would need to go via Airsure for insurance purposes) 2-30kgs can be sent via Parcel Force for £12.00 per parcel. Above 30kgs we would need to give an individual quote as the means that the goods can be sent vary depending on size and weigh etc. Regards Darren SansomExport Sales I have used this firm for more years than I care to remember and have found them epic. this is a recommendation post which is I think allowed under forum rules and have no connections with this firm . Dick Smith
All makes sense now! Glad they are prepared to deliver to France, I think they are a good company.
Piprob
Beware Parcel Force. They presumably must get some things right for some people. But they have never ever succeeded in delivering anything to me without great personal inconvenience and frayed temper.
Dick Smith
I now assume that I will always go and collect from Parcelforce's base. The best I heard recently was from TNT. They had tried to deliver a parcel on a day when I had told them I would not be in. I didn't know they had done that (as I had told them not to try to deliver that day) an they had not left a failed-delivery card. When the parcel didn't arrive on the day I had arranged to be in (and had told them about) I phoned up and spoke to a child who explained that as a matter of policy TNT don't leave failed-delivery cards, or try to redeliver. They expect the customer to call them and make new arrangements. "How do we do that if you don't leave a card?" I enquired. "Ah", he replied, "that does seem to be a weakness in our policy." So my goods (a new laptop) were sent back to Holland (?) and we had to go through the whole rigmarole again - except that they tried to deliver on another day that I told them I wouldn't be in on. So they left it next door, with no notification to me that they had done so. Good job my neighbour is honest...So Parcelforce don't seem so bad! Dick Smith
We discussed the topic at some length. He reported that I was not the first customer who had wished to leave robust feedback on this subject, and that in fact he agreed with me, but in passing on these comments to 'management' they had cocked a deaf 'un. So it goes.
Val_2
We've been buying from them for over ten years here in France. The heaviest thing was a big mortice machine which had to be delivered via a large truck from Cherbourg all the way out here and cost us about £230 which was a hell of a lot cheaper both in ferry charges and wear and tear on the big van to collect it,thus saving the VAT too. Small items come by parcel post within two or three days of ordering if in stock and never cost more than a few pounds.
CeeJay
I don't think Parcelforce were called 'Parcelfarce' for nothing!
Dave&Olive
Just dropped a major boo boo sent this e-mail to axminsterDarren You have just made my day thankyou . Would you mind if I put your reply on a French forum I use ? your postage costs are less than my travel costs ,might give you some bussines. Davegot this reply Hello, We would appreciate if the information did not go onto a forum as we are looking at the possibilities of using new and different carriers to update and improve our current service. As I say the below email is only a rough guide as sizes and values of goods may effect the figures below. Every export order that we receive a email is sent in reply with a quote for carriage, the order is not shipped until the customer has confirmed they are happy with the quote.Once we have decided on which carriers we are going to use in the future we hope to publish this information on our website to eliminate the need to email every customer and therefore make a faster and more efficient delivery service outside the UK. Many thanks Darren SansomExport Sales it looks like i know how to up set people Dave
Bobc
I would endorse all of the good comments re Axminster.I have used them for years - both in the UK and in France. I received an order yesterday, that was placed on-line last Friday - pretty good service. If you are registered for TVA in France they will supply your orders ex VAT.A good French mail order company for specialised items is Melodie SARL www.toutpourlebois.com - the only supplier that I have been able to find for the small oak chevilles for pegging traditional mortice and tenon joints on doors, windows and furniture.Regards,Bob Clarkehttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/grindoux

Dick Smith
I would suggest (I was going to write a 50 line post here, but I can't be bothered) that if it doesn't interest you, don't read it. Unless of course you just want to lob in a few gratuitously unpleasant comments. As Bill says, a chip on both shoulders...
