La vieille
Why do the French ones hang down on the light fittings? Is it possible to get them to cling to the ceiling or should we just buy English ones??

In our proerty there ARE no "roses" as such. Why not, if it's the latter, fix it in place with a DAB of silicone on the flex suspending the light, holding it with masking tape until the silicone goes off. Then if you ever need it off, it'll pull free, but will stay where it is under normal circumstances.Alcazar

All our "roses" are fixed to the ceiling, some have hooks to hold up a pendant light. I wouldn't use UK electrical parts here, as they are unlikely to be NF marked & therefore no approved. Ian Hoare
All the best
Ian
La Souvigne Corrèze
http:www.souvigne.com
Hi,I'm assuming that when you say ceiling rose in respect of an electical installation, you are referring to what I know as a pattress. If so, I agree! The French system is dire. What I did, without any compunction and NF or no, was to buy the pre-wired light fittings complete with pattress, 30 cms or so of flex and a bayonet lamp fitting for about £3 or so, and fitted that. But that was after all inspections! I expect those who say they're not approved for use here are right. Sigh. I'll continue to use something that CAN be fixed properly. La Guerriere
The modern ceiling fittings are getting a bit wierd. The ones used now are a round box which fits into the ceiling (green ones for a solid ceiling, yellow for placo) with hook underneath. According to the Rules they are supposed to e able to take load of 25kG, so the ones fiitting into placo have a thingy on top to connect it to a bit of structure to stop it pulling out of the platerboard. You can then get two sorts: ones for refurbs are plain with flaps that bend either side of the hook, or the ones for newbuilds have a Stupid Litte Socket :w00tdcl) at the side to plug the light fitting into. The theory is that the light fitting can be taken away without leaving bare wires. In theory you can get a Legrand ceiling rose to go flat on a wood ceiling complete with the Stupid Little Socket, but I've never seen one in the usual Brico sort of outlets. Might be available in specialist electrical suppliers.Jim
